If you’re like us, your to-do list looks like this:
  1. Plan session/revise assignment for economics class
  2. Assessment plan for chemistry curriculum
  3. Figure out what the heck is going on with the english department (haunted?)
  4. Archives ref ?: 1971-74 board meetings- was there a man named John or maybe James?
    1. Call back 724-867-5309
  5. Schedule advisee meetings spring registration
  6. Shake down Brad to get him to change the wpwv website
  7. Write up that article to submit to PAL:RAP

Your list might not look quite the same, but writing is probably on the bottom.

Well on Saturday November 4th, from 10 am- 1 pm, prepare for that all to change. Come ready to write, and drink coffee, and write some more! At the WPWVCACRL’s first Shut-up-and-Write.

Whether it’s your research findings, that fabulous grant idea, that overdue report, or just the great american novel, come ready to write. Meeting up with like minded librarians to discuss topics, gather inspiration, and get writing at a Shut-Up-and-Write event can be the answer to your writer's block. Come with what you need to focus on some  sustained writing time and spend the entire session, or whatever time you can spare.. just come and get started writing!

Put it on your calendar and stop by:
  • Saturday November 4th
  • 10:00-1:00
  • Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Squirrel Hill
  • Coffee and camaraderie provided!

(You do not need to be a chapter member to participate- all are welcome (until the room we booked is full!))

Call for Proposals: Spring 2016 Conference

The WPWVC/ACRL Program Committee is accepting proposals for our Spring Conference program, Transforming Our Libraries, at Seton Hill University (Greensburg, Pa.) on Friday, June 10, 2016.

Types of sessions:
In-depth presentations (45 minutes)
Lightning round talks (10 minutes)
Posters – by graduate students only

Last year the American Library Association launched the Libraries Transform initiative to increase public awareness of the way libraries adapt to best serve their users and to highlight the critical role that libraries play in the digital age. As technologies have advanced and evolved, many institutions have added new services, modified policies, and rethought library culture to expand libraries beyond the traditional “place to find a book” or “quiet place to study.” ALA has identified some major transformative trends – has your library tried anything new in these areas or others?

The WPWVC/ACRL Spring Conference is an opportunity to share transformation at your institution, in your workflows, or in any way that better meets the needs of users. Have you leveraged new technologies? Have you introduced new services? Is there evidence of change at your library? Share the details with your peers in a 45-minute presentation or give a brief overview in a lightning round talk. Student presenters are invited to participate in the poster session.

While proposals related to the program theme will receive a higher priority, all topics related to academic libraries are welcomed and encouraged.

Please submit a proposal (max. 150 words) at http://tinyurl.com/Spring16CFP by March 18, 2016.

Notifications of acceptance will be made after a blind peer-review process. All selected presenters will receive a reduced conference registration rate. Questions about presentations and submissions may be directed to the Program Committee at program.wpwv.chapter@gmail.com.
